Abstract

The biotechnology and nanotechnology sectors have experienced significant growth in recent decades, attracting the attention of global investors and changing the landscape of technological innovation. This article analyses recent investment trends in both sectors, highlights market dynamics, and identifies potential opportunities for investors and industry stakeholders. The study combines analyses of historical investment data, interviews with industry experts, and a comprehensive literature review to provide a holistic picture of global investment trends. Key findings show an increase in capital flows to biotechnology and nanotechnology startups, especially in the areas of precision health, gene therapy, and smart materials. Asia Pacific is emerging as a significant growth centre, with China and India leading the way in terms of number of patents and research and development investments. The study also explores the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on investment in the sector, showing increased interest in rapid diagnostic technologies and vaccine development platforms. In addition, investment trends in artificial intelligence (AI) technologies integrated with biotechnology and nanotechnology were analysed, showing great potential for disruptive innovation.Market analyses reveal a shift in focus from a single product-based approach to broader, cross-sectorally applicable technology platforms. Strategic mergers and acquisitions are also on the rise, signalling industry consolidation and faster technology transfer. Promising investment opportunities were identified in nanotechnology applications for renewable energy, nanomedicine for cancer treatment, and synthetic biotechnology for sustainable chemical production. However, regulatory and ethical challenges remain important considerations for investors
